Assisi is one of my favorite hilltowns in Umbria. Basilica of St. Francis is located here. It is the second largest church in Italy, and home of St Francis, Italy own patron saint. The town sits on a ridge halfway up a mountain. Located on another ridge above the town, is an old castle. Below the town is a beautiful valley, manicured with wheat, corn, grapevines, and olive trees. The town has several beautiful churches, along with charming streets full of small shops, eateries, fountains, and hundreds of flower boxes all over the walls and windows. Kevin and I spent the day wondering around the town. We sat in the Piazzia, ate a gelato, and watched the people. I posted to many pictures, but I want you to get some kind of feel for this beautiful town.
