St. Freancis use to walk to the top of the mountain to pray in solitude. He would stay up here for days. He found a small cave and would lay inside. But he would also lay outside and just stare up through the trees. They have a small statue laying on the ground showing the place. It is said that the animals talked to him. He is usually shown in pictures with dove. Everytime I come here I look for the dove. They are always here. The tiny church was built because he came here so much. It is on a very steep cliff. There are tiny alters, confessionals, a small indention, which is where his bed was, and even a tiny water holy water holder. The rocks on the floor are worn so slick from years of footsteps, that they are almost dangerous. Kevin and I quietly wound our way through the tiny, tiny, tiny, church. Hardly speaking. Both in our own thoughts. I followed taking pictures of Kevin. This is one of my most favorite spots in Italy.

Fresco on the wall in the first and largest room.

The only stain glass window. Was only about the size of an eight by ten picture. Was so beautiful!

Confessional. Kevin's favorite thing he said later on.
Another small fresco on the wall.

The railing Kevin is holding on to seperates people from walking onto the place where St. Francis slept.
This is the other side of the rail. The flowers are at the head of the bed. It is only a small indention in the rock.

Small alter with holy water holder. This area could hold no more than six or seven people, but was clearly a place where they held mass.
